Priory Scholars of NYC Summer 2020 Meeting

Dear Scholars,

With so much changing in the world around us, let us continue to gather in friendship and Sherlockiana. And so the Priory School is happy to invite you to the scion’s first virtual meeting on Saturday, July 11, 2020, from 1:00-3:00 PM. (This is the date that was previously announced.) The class will be held via Zoom. Login information will be sent to all registered participants before July 11.

Our class will discuss “The Adventure of the Yellow Face.” We will be challenged by another of Prof. Raj Pandravada’s perplexing quizzes. In preparation, I encourage you to read the story and reflect upon some possible topics of discussion, below:

  • “[K]indly whisper ‘Norbury’ in my ear” – What is the impact of Holmes not just acknowledging an error, but asking Watson to remind him of it?
  • “I want your opinion as a judicious man” – How does Grant Monroe compare to other clients, considering his ask of Holmes and his behavior at the solution?
  • “I cut myself off from my race in order to wed him” – Discuss Doyle’s treatment of interracial marriage in 1894

We are happy to make our virtual meetings FREE for all scholars and guests. Our virtual meeting room is larger than our physical one, but reservations are still required and must be received by Tuesday, July 7. Please email our Bursar, Prof. Christopher Zordan at to confirm your attendance. As this meeting is open to Sherlockians across the country, we recommend reserving your space early.

With our meeting moving online, our thoughts turn naturally towards our Manhattan home, THE CHURCHILL TAVERN. They are temporarily closed, and we all hope they will be there for us when we are once again able to meet in person. Though we are not requiring tuition fees for our gathering, we are accepting any donation you wish to make to the Churchill, and will send them 100% of your gift. As always, you may send a check payable to Christopher Zordan, 242 Rooney Court, East Brunswick, NJ 08816; payment can also be made via Paypal to; choose the “send money to friends” option. Please email with any questions.

In addition to our spirited discussion and prizes for quiz winners, there will be toasts, reports from recent Sherlockian events, a rousing rendition of our school song, and more! If you are interested in offering a toast, please inquire of Prof. Tamar Zeffren ( or the Headmaster (

Yours, with milk and biscuits,

Nick Martorelli, Headmaster

My father and I are devoted Sherlock Holmes fans and would love to attend the fall meeting on October 22? Is this possible?

  2. Sorry for the delayed response but our meetings are open to everyone – just be sure to RSVP.
