Due to the overwhelming response for this coming Saturday’s meeting our attendance is full. We will be unable to accommodate further reservations or day-of walk-ins for this meeting.
I am delighted to invite you to our 2018 summer session, where we all wish to avert an absolute breakdown of our own and seek reprieve over a relaxing game of cards. And so, our next gathering will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 12:00-4:00 PM. Class will be held, as usual, at THE CHURCHILL TAVERN, 45 East 28th Street, New York, NY 10016. The restaurant is located between Madison and Park Avenues, around the corner from the 28th Street subway station for the 4 & 6 trains.
Our class will be based around “The Devil’s Foot.” We will be challenged by another of Prof. Raj Pandravada’s quizzes. For our discussion, I encourage you to read the story and reflect upon the below possible topics of discussion:
- Consider how Holmes treats the culprit at the end of the story. What mitigating factors does he offer for his response, and how does Watson react? What does Holmes reveal about himself and his view of justice?
- How specifically does the mood of the setting affect the overall feel of the story? How would this story have felt had it opened in Baker Street?
While we have a reasonably large dining room, we must tell the restaurant how many students to expect. As the room comfortably seats approximately 40 people, we recommend registering early. To confirm your enrollment, please email PrioryNYC@gmail.com no later than Wednesday, July 4; please include your name in the subject line. As usual, your tuition of $40 includes your meal and two drinks. Pre-payment is preferred, although you may pay cash at the door. Payment should be made to our Bursar, Prof. Christopher Zordan, by Wednesday, July 4. You may transfer money via Paypal to email@example.com; choose the “send money to friends” option. Send checks payable to Christopher Zordan, 242 Rooney Court, East Brunswick, NJ 08816.
If financial challenges may prevent you from attending, please contact the Headmaster directly at NickMartorelli@gmail.com to inquire about our scholarship program.
In addition to our spirited discussion, there will be toasts, homework presentations, reports from recent Sherlockian events, a rousing rendition of our school song, and more! If you are interested in offering a toast or completing a homework assignment, please inquire of Prof. Tamar Zeffren at firstname.lastname@example.org or the Headmaster.
